TECH FINISHES FOURTH AT PAYNE STEWART INVITATIONAL

BRANSON, M.O. - The Wonder Boys golf team closed out the final round of the Payne Stewart with a 304 as a team to come away with a fourth place finish at the Branson Hills Golf Club on Tuesday.
Central Missouri won the tournament with a 573, Southeastern Oklahoma State finished second with a 596, and Midwestern State beat out Tech by just one stroke with a 603.
While the field struggled with only four golfers shooting below par for the day, the Wonder Boys excelled with three of those four shooting under par in their last tournament of the fall season.
Bryce Burke shined on the golf course, shooting the lowest score of the round with a two-under 70. Overall, Burke finished in a tie for second with an two-under 142.
Arkansas Tech also got a strong performance out of Austin Smith, who had a nice bounce back in the second round. After shooting a first round three-over 75 yesterday, Smith responded with a one-under 71 for the second-lowest round of the tournament. On the whole, Smith finished with a two-over 146, giving him a tie for ninth.
Competing as an individual, Jordan Hawkes finished the tournament in a tie for 12th after an outstanding second round. Hawkes ended his day with a one-under 71 to give him an overall tournament score of a three-over 147.
Dylan Lovell was the Wonder Boys fourth-best finisher with an 11-over 83 on the day, finishing the tournament with a 13-over 157 to come away with a tie for 38th.
D.J. Godoy shot an eight-over 80 on the day, closing out the tournament with a 16-over 160 and Julio Arguelles ended his day with a 12-over 84 and finished the tournament with a 19-over 163.
The Wonder Boys have now closed out their 2015 campaign and will set their sights on preparing for the GAC Championship being held in the spring.
Burke, Smith Lead Tech in Branson

Arkansas Tech University’s Bryce Burke and Austin Smith both recorded top-10 finishes at the 2015 Payne Stewart Invitational, which was played on Monday and Tuesday at Branson Hills Golf Club in Branson, Mo.
Burke fired rounds of 72-70 for a 36-hole total of 2-under par 142. He finished tied for second among a field of 67 players.
Smith returned scores of 75-71. His two-day score of 146 was good for a share of ninth place.
The Wonder Boys finished fourth among 12 squads in the team standings. Arkansas Tech finished with a team score of 604. The University of Central Missouri won the team title, besting its nearest competition by 23 strokes with a 36-hole total of 573. UCM’s Teddy Jones won the individual title with a two-day score of 4-under 140.
Dylan Lovell (T-38th, 74-83-157), D.J. Godoy (T-48th, 80-80-160) and Julio Arguelles (T-58th, 79-84-163) also contributed to the Wonder Boys’ team score.
Arkansas Tech’s Jordan Hawkes competed as an individual and finished tied for 12th. He shot 76-71 for a 147 total.
The Wonder Boys will resume their 2015-16 golf schedule Feb.28-March 1 at the Las Vegas Desert Classic.
