Me
My name is Bryce McConnel Burke and this is my website constructed for me by my mom and dad with the help of Craig of S Y N T Å R E S we update the site once a month. Please visit my other pages as they have been updated with new pictures and highlights. The site is all about my golf achievements and because it is my best sport, I also play soccer and love to swim.
I was born on the 9 September 1996 in Johannesburg, South Africa. My parents, Allan and Bridgette were very proud of me. I first starting playing golf in October 1999 (at the age of 3) after my parents saw a video clip of me playing with a plastic set of golf clubs in the garden. I then went to the practice tees with my first set of clubs we bought.
I hit about 600 balls a week depending on where I am practicing. I am enjoying playing on the big courses now. I normally practice my driving first and then my wedge shots on the wedge and putt. About 80% of my time is spent on the course as this is how the overseas juniors play.
My favourite golfers are Nick Price, Jim Furyk and Retief Goosen (Please click on HIGHLIGHTS) who I have met. They were very kind to me and allowed me to be photographed with them. Nick Price also allowed me to walk with him on the course at the Nedbank Golf Challenge. I also met Michelle Wie at the David Ledbetter Academy in Orlando. I have also met Ernie Els, Jim Furyk, Sergio Garcia, Colin Montgomery, Henrik Stenson, Andy Bean, Jose Maria Olzabal, Anika Sorenstam, Padraig Harrington, and Trevor Immelman. I have been fortunate enough to visit St Andrews, Scotland and walked over the famous bridge on Hole 18. In my travels I have also met Ivan Lendl the great tennis player as well as the South African President Thabo Mbeki.
I am now in Grade 7 at Crawford Preparatory School Lonehill, South Africa. I am now 12 years old and will be turning 13 in September 2009.
As of June 2009 I have played in 27 International Tournaments in the United States and Europe for my age group as there are no competitions for me in South Africa unless I play with 12 year or older and by handicap. I have played in Virginia, Mississippi, Florida, Texas, Illinois, South Carolina, and California as well as England, Zambia, Switzerland and Scotland. I have finished in the Top 25 on 21 occasions and in the Top 10 on 14 occasions. I have also played in five World Championships and my best finish was a second place in the Callaway World Championship as well as an 10th and 11th place in the U.S.Kids World Championships.
The courses I have played on in the USA were Bray Links, Spotswood, Golden Horseshoe, Lake Arlington Country Club, Pine Glen, Torrey Pines, Doral Blue Monster as well as the White, Red and Gold Courses, Ditto Chester Golf Club, Tierra Verde, Landmark Golf Course, Greenville Country Club, Knights of Columbus, Kellogg Executive Golf Course, Prairie Vista, Rolling Oaks, Westview Golf Club, Pinehurst, Black Gold, Coyote Hills, Lake Buena Vista, The National Course, Oak Glen, Lawrence Welk Course, PGA Club Ryder and Pete Dye Course, Southwood Golf Club , Reunion Golf Resort Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson Course and Lakeside Country Club. I have also played at Interlaken Golf Course in Switzerland and Craigielaw Golf Club in Scotland. I am still a member of Kyalami Country Golf Club in Johannesburg and play there every week and also represent them in the league fixtures. I have changed my clubs and now play with a full set of Taylor Made drivers and irons and putter. I still have my Callaway Hybrid. I am now playing with a Titlist Pro V1
